Our Powder Room Refresh.
Despite being one of the most-used rooms in our home, our powder room is a space that I don’t share often. It’s always had good bones but the finishing touches were lacking: a mirror too large for the wall, limited space for lighting, the irregular placement of hardware, and little to no character.

First, a look at our powder room from when we first moved in:
Over the years, I’ve made small updates to transform the room into a space that I actually enjoy. About two years ago, I installed wallpaper and from there, I replaced the sconce and then hung a new mirror. But one key piece that was always missing was artwork….
Art in a bathroom can be challenging but it’s an absolute must! There will always be a mirror and “hard” elements such as marble or metal that can make a bathroom feel really cold and sterile. So, I like to incorporate pieces like artwork and accessories to balance these colder/harder elements and add a touch of softness. I attempted to repurpose art that I already owned but nothing ever felt “right.” So, I decided to make it a goal of mine to fully complete the powder room this summer by choosing the perfect artwork.
Minted has forever been my go-to for art. It’s always fun browsing the website for the newest limited edition fine art prints and I love how Minted supports independent artists from around the world. I can choose any piece that I like and then customize the size, style and frame to truly make it my own. If you’re having trouble choosing, you can even text a photo of your wall to 415-993-WALL (9255) and a Minted stylist will text you back art recommendations that perfectly fit your space for free!
I spent a long time browsing through Minted’s extensive art collection to find the right pieces for our powder room…
Almost immediately, I knew that I wanted two smaller pieces stacked above the toilet instead of one larger work. A pairing would also create a better sense of balance with the mirror. I often like to pair two unexpected pieces together to bring interest to a room (mixing frames, sizes, and mediums) and I had a feeling that I wanted to go in this direction for our powder room.
While browsing Minted’s website, I pulled art that spoke to me and saved the pieces until I had a list of about 8-10 that I was considering. Below is the art that I liked best:
Next, I started to trim my list until I had six, and then four pieces — pairing them together to see which combinations (if any) worked alongside one another. Eventually, I landed on these four:
My four favorites were: “Grass With Seeds,” “Certainty No. 1,” “Southern Cotton Double Bloom Square,” and “Dog Study.”
Initially, I had thought that I wanted to mix frames (one brass and one white wood) but in the end, I actually settled on the two smaller pieces both in white frames and I really love the sense of balance and calmness that they bring to the powder room.
Believe it or not, I actually surprised myself with my choices! I was sure that I would choose at least one of the brass pieces but after playing around with various combinations, these two just felt right together. (Don’t worry — I’ll be using the other two somewhere else in our home!!)
I love the mix of mediums (one abstract painting and the other a simple sketch) and really feel as though they complete the room! Below are a few more shots:
I finally feel as though this little powder room is complete and I love how cozy it feels. A huge thank you to Minted for helping me with this project!
