Our Upstairs Hall Makeover.
When we first moved into our home, I hung a gallery wall throughout our upstairs hallway (which you can see more of here), added a simple console table ( a DIY grasscloth-wrapped console that I’ve yet to post about!!), and called it a day. A year later, I updated the gallery wall to include larger frames and pictures, which I really LOVE. This hallway is the main place where we display family photos — but the table never fit perfectly and was difficult to style (it’s a really low table and the bottom shelf barely fits anything). I always planned to add a nicer table up here but recently thought it might be cozier to add a bench with some pillows and a blanket. A fun little nook just in time for the holidays.

First, a quick look at the “before” shot of this hallway:
Serena & Lily’s Shore Bench has been a favorite of mine for some time (I recommend it a lot and have used it in several clients’ homes). I love its oversized shape and how the rattan adds a natural element to the room (something that’s important to me). I also love how it looks different with and without a cushion.
I opted to go without a cushion for now, layering on pillows and a cozy throw but may order a cushion in future. Honestly, I’m just thrilled to have another spot to toss some pillows! I love collecting beautiful pillows so having a cozy spot in our upstairs hall to add a few is going to be a lot of fun.
The bench is wide enough to fit 3-4 people really comfortably and has a low back, which I really like. I was actually worried for a minute that I’d have to adjust the height of my gallery wall but the bench fits PERFECTLY underneath, which I feel is fate! This bench was made for our hallway :)
I’ve actually had the Milo Alpaca Throw for a few years so I grabbed it from our bedroom and layered it over the side of the bench.
This is hands down one of my favorite throws. It’s an investment for sure, but it’s so incredibly soft and comes in a ton of gorgeous hues. And it lasts. Like I said, we’ve had ours for three years now and it looks just as perfect as the day it arrived. The Milo would absolutely make a wonderful holiday gift but I’m also sharing a few other favorite throws in case you want to order one for someone special on your list:
For pillows, I ordered the new Surfside Pillow, which I think complements the bench really nicely, and also added another older Serena & Lily pillow that I had in another room.
Below are some of my favorite fall pillows. The Mendocino in Grove is on my wish list!!
Lastly, you may have noticed that I added a new rug to this space. It’s an older Serena & Lily rug that’s no longer available, unfortunately, but an absolute favorite. It was previously in my office but I moved it down here because it’s just too beautiful to hide up there. Nothing better than shopping your house when you can, right?!
I truly love how this little hallway has come together! Definitely planning to swap out the pillows and throw each season and can’t wait to add a little lit tree to the mix in a few weeks :)
