This year's Halloween Decorations.

Halloween has always been my favorite time of year. I love everything about it: The costumes, the decorations, the movies, the candy!!! Everything. And now that we have our own home and the kids are old enough to really enjoy it, we go all out.

I don’t decorate the entire house like I would for Hanukkah and Christmas and I don’t make it too spooky BUT I do like to have fun. Instead of decorating EVERYTHING, I choose certain areas of our first floor to create fun “moments” for the kids (and me!) to enjoy. (My husband is British so he didn’t grow up celebrating the holiday… but he’s a good sport about it and likes to laugh at the decorations :))

On our front porch, I usually fill our planters with fall greenery (cabbage, mini peppers, grasses) and then do a decent display of pumpkins up our stairs. Some years we have more pumpkins than others (at the moment, we’re a bit light on pumpkins)… but even just a few makes a beautiful statement.

A few years ago, we added giant spiders to the mix, which have been really fun for the kids. They’re super affordable and SO easy to install (their legs just wrap like massive pipe-cleaners so I place them wherever a leg or two can get a good grip and they stay put!

We also added some spider webs to our landscaping in the front.. another easy and really affordable decoration. The kids love to pull it apart and throw it around the trees and then I just follow them and fix it up as we go! This year, we also have the addition of a couple of skeleton pups as well as a witch who flew into our tree :)

Indoors, I like to put up mini flocks of bats around our fireplace and in a few other spots around our first floor. They come with adhesive but I actually like to use sticky tack because it peels off so easily without any damage (I don’t trust the stickers that come with them….)

In addition to our fireplace, I also added the bats to our entryway console (they look so good on mirrors!!) as well as the corner of our living room with out lamp. I randomly stuck a few on the lamp shade and they look really cool in the evening when the lamp is turned on!

Then I just layer in tons of candles at varying heights, little haunted houses, and of course pumpkins. I like to mix materials for effect but always keep the colors neutral (real mini white pumpkins mixed with the prettiest recycled glass pumpkins…)

Below is a roundup of some of my favorite Halloween decorations to use both indoors and out:
