Laundry Room Redesign.

The term “laundry room” is really overstating what we have, because it’s more like a closet that (thankfully) happens to have a window. BUT it’s on the second floor of our home close to all of the bedrooms, which makes doing laundry pretty easy — so I really can’t complain.

When we first moved into the house, the space was completely empty apart from a washer and dryer hookup. The very first thing was did was to order the appliances, and about 5 seconds later, get to work on adding a countertop and cabinets (which we left to the professionals). Here’s a quick look at the room with just the washer and dryer inside:

It was all about making the room functional and less about making it pretty. I added some removable wall decals for the short-term and called it a day (here’s an old IG post of the space with the decals).

Fast forward three years later, and I’m now excited to finally show you guys what I’ve done to the space (it only took a 5-week quarantine to give me the motivation to finally upgrade the room!!) You all know my affinity for wallpaper and how much I love Serena & Lily’s wallpaper patterns. I had chosen the Acadia Stripe (in fog) for our downstairs powder room and had just enough leftover to wallpaper our laundry room with the same print.

You might remember me considering tile for the back wall (I was going to go with a simple subway tile and attempt to DIY it), but since the room is so small and primarily white, I felt like the white tile would be too stark and could make the space feel cold. The wallpaper, on the other hand, warms up the room and makes it feel much more like a…. room.

I added wallpaper to all four walls and am obsessed with how much it’s changed our little laundry room. I absolutely LOVE it now!

Once the wallpaper was up, I hung a framed print on the wall (which I already had, but you can find here) and accessorized the countertop and shelf with plants, some more art, our first aid box (which just holds bandaids, ha!), and moved my massive new bowl up here to hold dryer balls.

We keep this little step stool upstairs just in case it’s needed (I seriously recommend it to all of my friends and clients because it’s so sturdy and beautiful enough to leave out), and the very last piece I added was a teeny tiny vintage rug from Megan Molton.

I cannot tell you how much I now love this little room and just how EASY it was to transform using leftover wallpaper and by shopping my own home for art and accessories. More photos below! Happy Monday, friends :)
