How I Designed the Gallery Wall in Our Den.
If you’ve been following me for awhile, you’ve probably noticed my affinity for gallery walls. They’re such a cool way to show personality, add color and texture, and fill up a wall that might otherwise feel empty. I added a gallery wall of oversized family photos (in grid format) to our upstairs hallway a couple of years ago and added a smaller one to our den shortly after. You might remember what that gallery wall used to look like. It was something I hung on a whim one morning using pieces of art from our old apartment in Hoboken. It wasn’t perfect because I was using what I had, but I liked how it turned out so I kept it up for awhile.
Recently, I had the opportunity to partner with Minted so I decided to tackle our den gallery wall for real and turn it into something that I was truly proud of.

Below is a “before” shot of our den with our original gallery wall. As I mentioned, it didn’t look bad but to me, it was never perfect. The proportion wasn’t right and I was trying too hard to make use of what we already had.
Minted is my go-to source for limited edition fine art prints and has been for years. I love the variety of pieces that are available, the ability to customize anything (by size, format, frame type), and how proceeds from each purchase go directly to the artists themselves. Searching for artwork on Minted is also really easy! You can filter your search by medium, type of art, and orientation, among other features. I scrolled through the site and pulled pieces that jumped out at me.
Here’s a look at one of the pieces I chose for the gallery wall. Once you click on a piece of artwork, you can choose the size, frame type, and other details to customize the piece and make it one-of-a-kind.
I wanted to keep the color scheme of the gallery wall neutral while mixing different mediums to keep it interesting. I browsed the site and saved pieces that jumped out at me. Then I used my design program to mock up the layout of the gallery wall so I could confirm the artwork sizes and frame choice.
I actually decided to keep a few of the pieces that I had on the original gallery wall and added others so round it out. In terms of layout, one of the reasons I really love gallery walls is because there’s no wrong way to hang one. You can choose any layout that works for your space (a grid, a collage, even a layout that wraps around a corner and across two walls). As long as the artwork is meaningful to you and coordinates with the rest of your home, it will look fantastic.
Once the pieces from Minted arrived, I laid it all out on the floor of our den to confirm I was happy with placement":
I hung the largest piece first since I planned for it to go in the center of the wall so I measured this one piece but for all of the others, I sort of just winged it. I placed the first piece on the wall and then worked my way out towards the corners.
Below are a few photos of the final room. What do you guys think?!
And in case you’re interested in any of the art prints I used, I’m linking them all below.
A huge thank you again to my partner, Minted! Minted made it so easy for me to choose and customize pieces to my liking — I truly could not have done it without them!
